If my EFC is 5275 do you think I will get financial aid?

So my EFC is 5275, even though I am a single mom with two children!?! That's just ridiculous!

Anyways, I am enrolling in a small and cheap community college, that on the website says the average cost is $2500 for an academic year. Not sure how accurate that is but that's what the site says.

So does this mean I will not recieve any financial aid? If not are there any student loans you can reccomend that I apply for.

You don't qualify for pell grant money, which is the money you don't pay back, but you are still able to obtain federal student loans. You will have to contact your school to determine how much they will give you. You have 10 years to pay them off, and you don't have to make any payments until 6mos. after you graduation. Federal student loans are the best way to go. I work in financial aid, just to make sure you that you completed your FAFSA correctly, my advice is to take a copy of your 2006 tax return to your school and let them make sure that everything on your FAFSA is correct. And you automatically qualify for the federal student loan when you complete the FAFSA, as long as you don't have any student loans in default.

Your EFC is to high to qualify for the Pell Grant. The aid office at the school will look at your eligibility for low-interest government student loans.

you can always talk directly to the financial aid office about your situation, and they may help you out with some of the costs. If you can, don't just call there, go tot he office and talk with an advisor directly.

otherwise, you can apply for out of school scholarships. it does take extra time that you may not have, but it is well worth it not to go into so much debt. try this site:
