What to do? Attend the school of my dreams but make years of massive loan payments?

I got accepted into an incredible private university, one out of only 50 new students accepted, and even got scholarships and grants and other aid. But it still doesn't cover the full $30,000/yr tuition. I'd be spending only about two years there max, but between tuition and living expenses I'd be so far in debt. I could also finish out at my cheap state school I started at, but this is my DREAM and I would be heartbroken to give it up! Please help me make this decision and be at peace with it, I'm already enrolled at new school but realized last night that with interest on top of the initial student loan, I'm screwed :( Help!

It depends upon your field of study. If it is a field of study this expensive school is well known for and you will be way better off when you are done in terms of job prospects, then go for it. If your job prospects are about the same coming out of the state school or private school, then go with the cheaper one. While you do have the rest of your life to pay for it, do you really want to spend the rest of your life paying for it? Down the road there may be other things you wish you could have but cannot because you have huge student loans.

Live within your means, but don't necessarily sacrifice your dreams. Consider what the outcome of either situation will be. Also consider that professors at your state school are likely just as qualified as the professors at this other school. Get to know your professors - get to know the field - network.

You have a life ahead of you to pay off your loans.... Plus, if this is a prestigious school and you have the brains I'm sure you will have the money to pay the loans back in no time!

You only get to go to school once and if there is anything in your life that is worth spending money on it's your education.

Unless you're going into something that doesn't pay that well. I would go to your dream school.

You made a wise decision not all college students cant make. you looked into the future and seen how far in debt youd be with the same education. good decision

depends on what you're studying. if it is your dream and obviously part of a great dream is to be successful then you should lean more towards going to this dream school. you may be in major debt but having to pay this debt in trade with having accomplished something so great and not to mention its on your resume will look fantastic for job opertunities. i personaly say its deff worth it. Not to mention how crummy you would feel for wuite a very long time if you didnt go

Can you get a subsidized student loan? With subsidized loans the government pays the interest while you are in school (and they are typically loan interest loans, so once you are out of school and paying the interest it really isn't much extra. It sounds like you will always wonder %26quot;what if%26quot; if you don't go to this private university.

Happiness. You have to be happy in life before anything else really works. Fullfil your dream. You'll always wonder what could of been if you don't.

congratulations on being accepted to your dream school! You are obviously a very seroius student with good grades to accomplish this.. I'd go with your dream... we all must go into debt from time to time to realize the value what we want/need. The cost may be high... but the worth in the end? PRICELESS!!! If you'd invested in a house or car... things break down, need repair, etc. but an education is an asset you can carry for an entire lifetime! I do wish you well in your decisions as you go through your life. God Bless You!!
